It has been so cold this winter and it feels so long. I am so glad that summer is finally here. We just went outside and bought some shovels, sand molds, and sifters to use with the kids. We’ll throw things into the sandbox for the children to discover.
We created an obstacle course with balance beams for our kids to use in parking lots. They loved to walk on the cement surfaces. They can go up and down, and they can go around and round. We bought a few 2×3’s or 2×4’s at Lowes. They were cut into various lengths, including several 10 inch lengths to make the bottom. To put it together, we purchased some L-Brackets as well as 1 1/2″ wood screws. All in all, I think we spent between $25-30. We also bought a large piece of plywood because we don’t have concrete. Although the chalk isn’t as vibrant on plywood, it works well enough and the children love it.
My mother loves spoiling our children so she bought each one a Little Tikes Trike. It will grow with them. Although the trikes aren’t as often played with as other toys, it’s because they don’t have much concrete to ride on. The boys prefer to go for walks, so instead of using the stroller, they insist on riding their Little Tikes trikes. We will take the boys to the park every once in awhile so that they can play on the basketball courts.
We bought one of the huge Target garden wagons for our family. Despite the fact that it was meant to be used in my DIY projects and gardening, the kids love it. It’s a great way for them to take their stuffed animals on a tour around the yard or just relax in it while they drink their milk. To transport compost, firewood and tools, as well as fencing for beans, peas and other garden materials, I bought a heavy-duty wagon. This wagon has become a favorite toy for my kids. The kids love to put stuffed animals inside it and then ride one another around the neighborhood. A simple children’s wagon is just as enjoyable for them if you don’t need a garden wagon.
Or in other words, something that you usually only do inside or think of as an inside activity, then take it outdoors; do it in the driveway or grass, just do it outside. You can do a lot of things with your child, such as coloring, puzzles and cars.
